Double Cross Makes Star Athletes’ Day at The Shaun O’Hara Foundation Golf Outing

leave a comment »

Last Thursday, big-name sports stars came out to Trump National Golf & Country Club to support The Shaun O’Hara Foundation, the New York Giants center’s charity focused on raising money and awareness for rare, life-threatening diseases. Luckily for everyone, Double Cross Vodka was there to ensure they made it around the course with a smile despite how well their game was going.

New York Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl Champion Eli Manning, New York Jets signal caller Mark Sanchez, Jets center Nick Mangold, Yankee great Willie Randolph, Super Bowl XXV and Giants running back OJ Anderson, and longtime NBA center Cliff Robinson all made their way around two 18-hole courses as Donald Trump himself presided and played a round. Signature Double Cross cocktails greeted players at two holes on both courses, and also filled glasses during the cocktail hour and live auction for sports memorabilia, plus at the delicious dinner following the day on the links.

Check out the photos below, then hit the Shaun O’Hara Foundation website

Every player received a bottle of Double Cross Vodka.

Places You Need To Drink Double Cross: Prime One Twelve in Miami

leave a comment »

Miami isn’t exactly a town short on celebrities. But if you’re on a high-stakes scavenger hunt and need to get your picture taken arm-wrestling one, you’d be wise to do whatever it takes to get into Prime One Twelve, South Beach’s top-flight steakhouse with a top-flightier scene.

Set at the bottom of the historic deco Browns Hotel, One Twelve hosts everyone from Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova, to Will Smith, to a certain Bill Clinton, and was basically a second home to all 10,000 Kardashians when they lived literally across the street. Both the luminaries and the civilians lucky enough to get either a table inside near the open kitchen, or outside on the patio ringing the joint, can enjoy handcrafted Double Cross cocktails like the Double Cross Truffle Martini, plus portions so big, you’ll be enjoying Fried Chicken ‘n Waffles, a Colorado Lamb Rack, or a 30oz ribeye for days, or at least a couple well-fought hours.

Goodness, Gracious, Ice Balls (No Fire)

leave a comment »

Yes, we did indeed recommend that you get an ice-ball mold in our Last-Minute Holiday Gift Ideas back in December. Good memory! But sometimes an individual needs a massive, constant supply of ice balls, and doesn’t have time to wait for silly nature/larger kitchen appliances to freeze lots of water.

Enter the Cirrus Ice Ball Press, a technological wonder that can crank out perfectly spherical ice-orbs in just a minute. Far cheaper than industrial models, it’s not only a showstopping piece of design, it’s also remarkably easy to use. Just pop in a chunk of ice (you’ll need a block to chip that off), place the top half on the guide rails, and let it get down to the business of astounding your guests, who will ooh and ahh the night away and call you the most magical host ever. EVER!! Oh, and also the business of making ice balls.

Check out the video of it in action below, then get your Cirrus Ice Ball Press right here

Places You Need to Drink Double Cross: Nobu New York

leave a comment »

There are Japanese restaurants, and then there is Nobu. Fusion pioneer Chef Nobu Matsuhisa now fills plates throughout an empire spanning five continents, but his crown jewel remains Nobu New York, the city’s standard-bearer for innovative Japanese cuisine since 1994.

The Black Cod in Miso and Rock Shrimp with Spicy Mayo have been the stalwarts of a menu pulling on Western and South American influences, but the fun ranges from Bigeye Tuna Rolls, to Colorado Lamb Chops, to a chef’s choice Omakase menu, in which said chef generally decides you want to leave extremely, extremely full. The decor — influenced by Matsuhisa and co-founder Robert DeNiro, who also makes movies in his spare time — is imminently classy yet understated compared to many show-stopping restaurants, making you feel like you’re in a Japanese forest that just happens to have delicious sashimi tacos.

Oh, and it also has Double Cross. Enjoy it any way you like, including in a Cucumber Martini, or the Matsuhisa Martini with sake and ginger. Whatever you get, from those drinks to the food, it’s very difficult to not leave with the realization that you’ve just dined, and drank, at an icon.

Hungry? Thirsty? Swing by NobuRestaurants.com to get even more so.

Wednesday is Administrative Professionals Day: Time To Get Some Double Cross

leave a comment »

They answer your phones, make your copies, collate your papers, ensure you keep your appointments, and complement your tie even though it definitely has Bugs Bunny on it. They are administrative professionals. They deserve some Double Cross.

Wednesday is Administrative Professionals Day (formerly Secretaries Day, but that doesn’t account for all the other people who also have earned themselves some delicious seven-times-distilled Slovakian vodka just by tolerating you). So, head down to your local liquor store and pick up a bottle, or take them to a long lunch aided by a Double Cross martini. And if you really want to make it personal, you can laser-engrave their name (or other message) on the cap of the bottle of Double Cross. Just email us at gift@doublecrossvodka.com and we’ll connect you with the store that can get it done.

No matter what, just make sure you do SOMETHING — because when you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything; but when you DO have something nice to say, say it with vodka.

RIP, James Bond’s Vodka Martini

leave a comment »

James Bond’s beverage of choice will remain un-stirred, but is definitely getting shaken up. The iconic drink that 007 has been ordering in the same dangerously dapper fashion for 48 years is about to be replaced by… a Heineken.

In at least one scene in the upcoming Bond film Skyfall (being released this Fall, when the sky may do just that thanks to this drink decision), Britain’s most Wilt Chamberlain-y secret agent will consume a product-placed Heineken in lieu of his trademark cocktail. While it remains unclear whether or not he’ll also sip his go-to vodka martini (presumably made with Double Cross) at some point, we decided it was the perfect time to take a little stroll down hazy-memory lane and remember Bond’s better days of consumption.

-Sean Connery may have made it iconic, but Dr. No is actually the first character to say the famed words “shaken, not stirred,” in his eponymous 1962 film. Then he shook up Connery by attempting to kill him with a tarantula.

-Connery first ordered himself one in 1964′s Goldfinger. And lord knows a man can use a drink after dealing with a shortish midget who throws razor hats and a fat dude who kills his girlfriends by painting them gold.

-George Lazenby, the semi-forgettable Aussie who played Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, never actually ordered himself a martini, but when he initially encountered Marc-Andre Draco, Draco took care of it for him, “shaken, not stirred” and everything.

Even toy-George Lazenby knows what Bond drinks!

-Roger Moore also never ordered one for himself. But that’s fine, because he was smart enough to let women like Anya Amasova (The Spy Who Loved Me), Mi6 Agent Manuela (Moonraker), and Octopussy herself take care of that for him.

-Timothy Dalton, who studio records indicate was indeed Bond for two films, ordered one in each of appearances. Hopefully, he also had access to vodka when he left the franchise to star in Beautician and the Beast.

-Pierce Brosnan taps barkeeps for at least one in each of his three films, even giving the stewardess on his turbulent flight a little playful jab, saying “good thing I ordered it shaken.” Hey now, Piercey! It’s almost like he’s got somebody writing these lines for him!

-In Casino Royale, Daniel Craig proves with something other than his pecs that he is indeed the most badass Bond of them all. He orders his martini, is asked “would you like that shaken or stirred?” and responds “Do I look like I give a damn?” Granted, he did just lose like a trillion dollars at the poker table.

Our advice? If you’re watching a Bond film and need a libation, stay away from the import beers, pour yourself a Double Cross martini any way you like, and remember the good old days when a man’s drink is what made him iconic, and the other way around.

The old response to someone staring at you goes “take a picture, it’ll last longer.” Well, prepare to have everyone stare at you while taking a shot of Double Cross that looks like it should be taking a picture, thanks to the “Shot” Glass Lens Set.

The future is here, and it’s full of Double Cross. Everything You’ve Ever Wanted To Know About Slovakian Hockey Star Zdeno Chara

leave a comment »

As everyone important knows, Double Cross hails from Slovakia. So do some fine athletes, like tennis beauty Daniela Hantuchova, who we profiled not too long ago. But the biggest Slovak sports import is hockey players. And the biggest of them is Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara.

Standing 6-foot-9, Chara is the tallest player to ever skate in a professional hockey game, because unfortunately Rik Smits never played in the NHL. God that would’ve been awesome. And seeing as Chara just played in his 1,000th contest this past Sunday, we thought it would be a good time to commemorate the not-so-gentle giant’s career with a quick rundown of the most important facts.

-Chara joins an elite group of Slovaks in the 1,000-game club, which includes Stan Mikita (1,394). longtime Capital Peter Bondra (1,081), and Miroslav “I Swear I’m Not The Devil” Satan (1,050).

-He’s captain of the Bruins, an honor that’s only been bestowed upon two other Slovaks: Mikita and Peter Šťastný. No, all those awesome accents aren’t just for show.

-In the ‘08-’09 season, he won the Norris Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s best defenseman, and is unfortunately not named after Chuck Norris.

-He won Hardest Shot at the All-Star Game Skills Competition five times: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012, topping out at a ridiculous 108.8 mph.

-He speaks seven languages: Slovak, Czech, Polish, Swedish, Russian, German, and English.

-In the Jan 23, 2012 issue of Sports Illustrated, Chara’s fellow players voted him the league’s hardest hitter, narrowly inching out a guy named Jordin Tootoo, who presumably hits people so hard because he’s gone through life being named after a skirt worn as a costume in ballet performances.

-He’s the first Slovakian captain to win a Stanley Cup, which he almost certainly filled with Double Cross.

19th-Century Russians Really Knew Their Vodka Vessels

leave a comment »

Everyone knows those Russians know how to drink some vodka. But whoever hits Christie’s auction in New York on April 16 will know exactly how classily they drink it — or used to, at least, once they lay their eyes/a bid on this 19th Century silver enamel vodka set. Made by Fabergé heavy hitter Feodor Rückert, the set looks like what Anna Karenina would use while entertaining the more distinguished men she was scamming on her husband with.

The set’s composed of a large, tall, bulbous flask, six cups, and a tray, all crafted with incredibly ornate designs of the period, making them a close second in the vodka-related beauty category, after the Double Cross bottle, naturally. This particular lot is definitely a highlight of “one of the strongest offerings of cloisonné enamel to come to the market in years,” so cloisonné enamel diehards, get after it.
